About roof replacement in Wilkes-Barre
Roof replacement means removing the existing roof covering — and sometimes the decking beneath — and installing a complete new system. It's generally considered when a roof reaches the end of its service life or has widespread damage.
Properties in Wilkes-Barre and Luzerne County can differ in age, roof shape, materials, exposure, and local requirements. An on-site assessment is the reliable way to determine the right scope for a specific property.
What this work generally involves
- Tearing off existing roofing down to the deck
- Inspecting and repairing the roof deck as needed
- Installing underlayment, ice barriers, flashing, and new covering
- Replacing or resealing vents, skylight curbs, and edge metals
- Site cleanup and a final walkthrough
Local project considerations

- Material choice affects weight, lifespan, appearance, and cost.
- Permits are required for replacement in many jurisdictions — contractors usually handle them.
- Ask about workmanship and manufacturer warranties offered by the contractor you hire.
- Ask the contractor about permits and requirements that apply in Wilkes-Barre.
Common questions
How long does a roof replacement take?+
Many single-family replacements take a few days, but size, complexity, weather, and material all affect the timeline. Your contractor can give a project-specific estimate.
Can a new roof be installed over the old one?+
Some jurisdictions allow one overlay layer, but it isn't always advisable. A contractor can explain what's permitted and sensible for your roof.
Does this site set replacement prices?+
No. Pricing comes from the independent contractor you choose. We recommend getting written estimates from contractors you contact.
